1. 型彫り(Katabori): Carving a stencil according to a previously created design.
  2. 紗張り(Shabari): Attaching gauze to the stencil.
  3. 型置き(Kataki): A paste made from rice bran and glutinous rice is placed on the cloth that is placed over the stencil.
  4. 色差し(Irosashi): Mainly using pigments, color is added to the pattern areas.
  5. 隈取り(Kumadori): After color is applied, the pattern areas are blurred.
  6. 糊伏せ(Noribuse): Covering the areas that will not be colored with ground dyeing with glue.
  7. 地染め(Jizome): Dyeing the areas that are not patterned.
  8. 蒸し(Musi): Steamed at 100℃ for around 50 minutes to set the pigments and dyes.
  9. 水元(Mizumoto): Remove glue and impurities from the fabric.
